How To Get The Best Baby Photos
July 25, 2024Baby shoots are so much fun, but they do go fast and honestly might sometimes involve a lot of spraying and praying! Once the baby is done, they are done! So here’s how to keep baby smiling and mommy and daddy happy during your shoot.
Get help from baby’s grown ups!
Strong girl!
This was the theme ringing throughout the shoot
as baby girl could be seen flexing her tiny muscles. It was a joy to shoot her
as she was full of expression, smiles and energy. Her mother and grandmother
were on location to make sure that everything went well during the shoot. They filled her up with her favourite snacks to keep her happy and facilitated wardrobe changes.
Schedule Around The Baby
Baby sessions can be tricky as I like to allow the child the
freedom to have fun, be natural, and go at their own pace. When preparing for a baby shoot, always schedule sessions way before
or after nap time. A cranky baby will definitely not give you what you want in
your session, and it will translate into your portraits. During my own daughter’s first birthday shoot, she was so exhausted, she cried the entire time (I had scheduled a shoot during naptime). Thankfully, the studio allowed us to bring her back after naptime. We drove to a nearby beach and allowed her a chance to rest.
Be patient but have a plan!
The greatest advice I can give for capturing amazing child portraits is to be patient, fun and kind. Be sure to allow them time
to play, take breaks, and warm up to the camera and environment. It would also be helpful to give the child an activity to incorporate into the overall story of the portrait session.
Happy birthday Aryah, and congratulations to her parents for
making it to the first year! It is a huge accomplishment, indeed!
